I used to ride a bicycle in winter,
Ten speed through the snow and ice,
Salt slush staining the back of my coat.
Now I try to stay inside.
I used to be young, foolhardy
Stoned and drunk every day,
Unafraid of tornado and lightning,
Now I almost fear the dark.
Things have changed for me since the incident.
I was struck by paranoia, sirens, voices,
And the doctors threw a switch in my skull
With their lobotomizing drugs.
All I needed I had, and she is gone,
“Everything will be OK.”
Now she rests below the clay
While I face the world, alone.
