Forest

Miller Woods
A cold November afternoon
Walking on dry leaves, sun descending
Trees like their shadows, dark and bare.
This was my peace, my time away
From noise and screens and chores,
While at home my Mother, in the grip
Of Alzheimer's struggled for simple
Comfort, dying slowly, like the trees.
